Elon Musk’s X Platform Complies With Indian Government Over AI Content Moderation
Elon Musk's social media platform X has agreed to adhere to Indian regulations following government pressure over its AI chatbot Grok generating explicit content. The Indian IT Ministry issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding content moderation improvements, threatening to revoke the platform's legal protections.
X has removed 3,500 pieces of content and deleted 600 accounts involved in creating AI-generated obscene imagery. A MeitY official confirmed the platform's commitment to prevent future violations, stating: "X has accepted its mistake and will work as per Indian laws."
The controversy highlights growing global tensions between tech platforms and governments over AI content moderation. India's firm stance demonstrates its increasing influence in shaping digital governance policies worldwide.
